Today, wine shop shelves are overflowing with organic wines. But beyond the environmental or ethical approach, one question often comes up:
Does organic wine taste different?
At Torevitis, we're not going to beat around the bush: yes, organic wine can really change the experience in your mouth. And here's why.
The taste of grapes, not chemicals
The principle of organic farming is based on viticulture without synthetic pesticides or herbicides .
Result :
-
healthier grapes , picked at optimal ripeness,
-
skin richer in aromas and natural yeasts ,
-
living microorganisms in the soil , which nourish the vine.
Concretely in the glass?
A purer, cleaner wine, with aromas that are often more precise and less artificial . We rediscover the true taste of the grape variety and the terroir.
Fewer inputs in the cellar, more naturalness in the mouth
Organic wine is not limited to the vineyard. In the cellar, too, intervention is generally more measured:
-
The doses of sulfur are reduced,
-
Indigenous yeasts (naturally present on grapes) are often preferred,
-
The filtrations are less aggressive.
Wines that are sometimes more "lively", which express their vintage more.
Which can translate into more freshness , more texture , and more emotion ... but also more variation from one bottle to another .
And that's what many people like: the feeling of drinking a non-standardized , un-disguised wine.
Does taste always change? Not necessarily...
Let's be honest: not all organic wines taste different from conventional wines.
A poorly vinified organic wine remains a disappointing wine.
A carefully crafted conventional wine can be excellent.
The taste therefore depends above all on the talent of the winemaker.
But in organic farming, the conditions are right for the wine to have more personality , more frankness , and often less heaviness or artifact .
