Neuchâtel, Pinot Noir oak barrel – Keller Wines 2021
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
The terroir: Of Jurassic origin, the soils can vary (stony and light, sometimes marly and heavier, even alluvial and deep) but all remain marked by limestone, always abundant. The soils' low nitrogen content, a source of nutrition for the vines, as well as their relatively high levels of various mineral salts, provide Boris and his team with an ideal raw material for producing great wines from "Little Burgundy", as the Neuchâtel vineyards are rightly called!
The grapes are grown using environmentally friendly methods (Vinatura Swiss standards), with limited yields and harvested manually once they have reached ideal ripeness. Vinification is carried out in the traditional white winemaking method, and aging is carried out exclusively in vats.
Tasting and pairings: The color is rather light, a ruby red. On the nose, strawberry aromas characteristic of the grape variety dominate some woody notes associated with more discreet floral and fruity aromas. Subsequently, we discover on the palate a beautiful balance between acidity, tannins and amplitude; this Pinot, rich, is complex and its structure allows a beautiful integration of the oak wood! We find with delight the strawberry, ripe but always fresh and far from the jammy and heavy aromas of certain Pinots.
