Neuchâtel – The Great Terroirs, Pinot Noir, Our Winegrower’s Selection – Keller Wines – 2022
Grape variety(ies) : 100% Pinot Noir
The terroir: The soils are predominantly limestone although there is, more or less, a quartet of subsoils (yellow limestone and medium depth, glacial moraines, fluvio-glacial sediments with coarse elements and stony limestone). Low altitude of around 460m. The soils' low nitrogen content, a source of nutrition for the vines, as well as their relatively high levels of various mineral salts, provide the team with an ideal raw material for the production of great wines from "Little Burgundy" as we rightly like to call the Neuchâtel vineyards!
Our winemaker's selection is a Torevitis selection and aims to reveal great Swiss terroirs that are still little-known. The sorting is highly selective and fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts. The work is carried out as much as possible by gravity. The aging is carried out for approximately 18 months in Burgundy barrels. This cuvée is intended to be pure, in order to (re)discover Pinot Noir, but also to appreciate the terroir that saw its birth.
Tasting and pairings: The color is rather light, a garnet red. On the nose, strawberry aromas characteristic of the grape variety dominate some woody notes associated with floral, fruity and even more discreet spicy aromas (licorice, raspberry, morello cherry, smoke, black berries). Subsequently, the attack is fruity and racy. A good omen followed by a delicate and persistent tannic structure. The balance between acidity, tannins and amplitude is remarkable; this Pinot, rich, is complex and its structure allows a beautiful integration of the oak wood!
