Clape – Henry Lapierre – Château Rouquette sur Mer 2021
Grape varieties: Syrah (50%), Mourvèdre (50%)
Characteristics: The 2021 Henry Lapierre cuvée from Château Rouquette sur Mer is a rare single-vineyard selection, a tribute to the estate's founder. It is distinguished by its deep garnet color with purplish highlights. The nose is intense, complex, and refined, revealing aromas of ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry), fine leather, garrigue, and spicy notes such as licorice and black pepper. On the palate, the structure is ample and tightly knit, with perfectly integrated tannins and a dense yet elegant texture. Aging in oak barrels imparts toasty and balsamic notes, without ever masking the purity of the fruit. The long, saline finish expresses the full depth of the La Clape terroir.
Food and Wine Pairing: Ideal with a rack of lamb with herbs, hare à la royale, or slow-cooked dishes with Mediterranean influences. Serve between 17 and 18°C after decanting.
The Estate: Perched between the sea and the garrigue, Château Rouquette sur Mer is a benchmark of the La Clape appellation. A family estate for four generations, the property cultivates its 50 hectares of vines with respect for the terroir and the surrounding nature. The Henry Lapierre cuvée, crafted from the oldest vines grown on limestone soil, pays homage to the authenticity and grandeur of the site. Meticulous work in both the vineyard and the cellar results in a powerful, refined wine, deeply rooted in its place of origin, with excellent aging potential.
